Freddy
Male 6.8 years Level 2.5
Freddy was a stray in Oakland and was found running on I-880 before Oakland Animal Services and CHP could safely get him off the freeway. After a short stint in the shelter, Freddy was evaluated and pulled by Golden State German Shepherd Rescue. We believe Freddy to be approximately two years old and it appeared he had very minimal experience living in a home. However, he has been in his foster home for almost a month and with a little TLC, he has blossomed into a lovely dog. He appears to be housebroken, crate trained, and with a steady diet of good quality food Freddy has put on some much-needed weight and looks great! Freddy has gotten along very well with his resident foster brother, TJ, who has taught him the ropes of chasing squirrels in the backyard. He has also appointed himself as the “resident opossum monitor”, faithfully keeping watch when an opossum is sitting on the fence. However, Freddy does not bother the resident rabbits nor do they bother him. He has met many people of all ages and has been very good and respectful around them. And although he has bonded strongly to his foster dad, his foster mom says, "Freddy will make a wonderful family companion". More

Riva
Female 7.6 years Level 2.5
Hi, I'm Riva. I'm shapely, single, full of fun... and looking for a commitment with someone who has experience with inquisitive females. I love hopping in a car and visiting new places but I am just as happy just going on a walk or just hanging around the house. Are we a match? Sweet and willing, pretty Riva wasn’t given much of a chance during her young life. When she came into rescue, we realized she didn’t have any training or manners so we (and she) had to start from square one. Riva may be three years old but she is really a puppy-at-heart. Riva has wonderful house manners, is crate trained, housebroken, is a great traveler, and has a great alarm bark. Riva is also quite the fast learner and has learned “sit”, “shake”, “down”, and “come”. She enjoys her daily walks and is learning to walk on a loose leash. Riva is very treat/food motivated and is eager to please and although she has shown little interest in playing ball, she likes to carry a soft toy around the house. Riva may do very well in a home with a large playful male as she loves running around in the yard with her foster brother but no kitties or small dogs for this pretty girl. Good with people of all ages, Riva would be happiest with a dedicated person or family who can and will keep her busy and entertained and remain committed to her on-going training and learning. More

Aslan
Male 6.8 years
Aslan is a sweet and handsome, two year old male who was found as a stray wandering the streets of Stockton. Based on our initial observation, he probably has had minimal exposure to the outside world during his two years. Everything seemed new to him, including playing with other dogs. Several of his rescue siblings tried to initiate play and at first Aslan didn’t really understand what they wanted or the “play bow”. But that didn’t last long. Rescue's self appointed mascot, Bucky, and his pesky puppy persistence paid off and he finally got Aslan to start playing and got him to chase him around his new playyard! Aslan appears to have not had a lot of training so we (and he) are starting from square one but he has shown an eagerness to learn and especially an eagerness to please. Aslan will require a patient, dedicated, decisive, and committed owner who is willing to set boundaries and enforce them and who is willing to be fully committed to him and his on-going training and learning. Bucky
Male 5.1 years Level 4.0
Meet Rescue's self appointed Mascot, the pesky puppy Greeter, and Initiator of Play, Bucky. Bucky is an extremely outgoing, independent pup who is not afraid of anything. And although these are his best qualities, these are also qualities that his new owner will need to channel and manage. His eagerness to meet and greet new dogs and his ever-persistent personality could easy become a nuisance to some dogs. Bucky has great eye focus, is a fast learner, and is learning basic obedience and house manners. He is crate trained, is a great traveler, has a great bark (for his size) and gets along with all dogs he meets. He hasn’t mastered being housebroken yet but his foster mom is diligently working on that. We believe Bucky is mostly Belgian Malinois with a sprinkle of German shepherd which will require an adopter with knowledge and experience handling and training these two Breeds. We carefully choose homes for our puppies as they require owners who are home enough, and have the time, energy and patience to guide the puppy through their chewing, digging, and mouthing stages (which can last through adolescence), and who will provide regular exercise, socialization and training so the puppy will grow up to be a mannerly adult dog. All puppies bark incessantly, dig, and destroy things if they are left alone for long periods of time, and thus, need to be with owners who do not leave them alone for long hours. More
