Is this boy handsome or what!!! This hunk of a dog has hints of red in his fur...Rocco came to us via San Francisco Animal Care. He is a sweet gentle boy, but it seems has had little to no training, but has adapted quickly with the work of his foster. He did well upon evaluation and was fine meeting another male GSD and a pack of husky's. He has not been tested with cats.
Since his time in foster, he has taken to leash walking, playing in the snow, and shown to be a dog that loves his people. He has had a couple of training sessions with Art of Zen Your Dog, and is excitable when he sees other dogs, but has responded well to calming down once he sees them. He is spending some time in doggy day care as well, so getting accustomed to being around other dogs for a continued amount of time. Rocco does have some separation anxiety, so maybe he would do well as a second dog, so he has another pack member around with him.
At this time he will need an experienced GSD handler (although he has responded so well to his training and does well with both verbal and hand commands). Due to his size and strength, he will need to go to a home with children over 12 who have been around large GSD's.
He showed no interest in toys, but that could have been due to stress in the shelter environment. He rode well in the car in the enclosed dog area, and loved feeling the wind in his fur.
