Sebastian

Senior
Sebastian is a gorgeous, lovable senior GSD. We think he is around 10-12 years of age. He was an owner surrender to the shelter as his owner was moved to a nursing home. It was stated that he was in a home with 3 chihuahuas, however he is very drawn to small dogs on walks and their high pitched barking. He is doing well in his foster home with 2 other GSD's a male and female. He is a bit pushy when seeking attention and maneuvers himself between you and the other dogs, so we are working on those manners. He walks great on leash, doesn't pull on leash, but does need an observant handler, as they way he says hello to smaller and/or less alpha dogs is with a Shepherd Nip. We are working on that with him as well. He is also respondent to his name, and come when called while training on a long lead.
He is house trained, though I don't think he has ever seen a crate, so not working on crate training. He has been left alone in the foster home so far with access to the yard and everything has been great. He sleeps through the night and is mastering stairs. I'm sure that he would prefer a home without stairs as he is scared of them, but he can do it on his own. Carpeted stairs would probably be no issue.
His hips are typical of a large senior shepherd. He weighs about 86 pounds and it looks like the arthritis has caused some atrophy in his hind legs. Someone who can give him daily massages, walks, stretching and a cozy place to lay his head is ideal. He seeks attention and is such a sweetheart. He's been great with all people. He does love to get in the car and gets excited for the leash to come out. He moves well for having the hip issues he does have, but get's so excited to go on walks. In his current foster home, he has been managing hills, sand, and loves being in the ocean.
Sebastian is an ideal dog for someone looking to show this boy love for his last few years.
