Nessie is a young energetic girl full of joy and love. She has a frisky and comical personality. She’s eager to please you and easy to train as she wants nothing more than your attention. She lightly pesters the house cats but nothing serious—she responds quickly to a “leave it.”  She does very well with medium to large dogs that don’t mind the Shepherd style of play. She goes willingly into her crate and remains quiet after some initial complaining. Nessie is learning to walk on a leash very nicely though you must let her know at the outset that it isn’t playtime. Once that is established she does not continue to test the boundary. She’s just started pacing with a bicycle, a great way to expend some energy! She lives with a male Australian Shepherd, a male Chihuahua mix and a female Shepherd mix and two adult humans. She plays very well with her pals with an occasional skirmish with her bestie Winnie. The two girls play extensively and occasionally get into it over whatever—not leaving a scratch on each other. Temporary fosters have come and gone and she has treated them all respectfully including playing mommy to a couple of puppies. She is a Velcro dog and will follow you everywhere and attempt to be your number one by standing closest to you if you have another dog. She does not growl or snap at the others though her hackles go up giving the leader a clue that it’s time for a “Tss-tss” letting her know who is in charge. She responds very well to corrections and does not challenge the leader. She will play with you all day if you are willing. She’s a very active fun dog and would excel at agility or another dog sport. Nessie is a warm affectionate dog that loves to cuddle up next to you and burrow her face right in there as if searching for the deepest affection. Nessie was left at the shelter after her family came looking for her and decided they didn’t want to pay the fee to get her out. We were there evaluating her when the family showed up. There were three small children present and she appeared to adore them. It was when we returned a week later and saw that she was still there that we realized the heartbreaking trauma that she must be going through. She was just a little shy and clearly a backyard only dog that has blossomed wonderfully, growing in confidence every day.
