Suzie
Female 12.7 years
Adopted Added September 24, 2013
Suzie is a beautiful, 64 pound, black and tan female with a healthy coat and gorgeous soft brown eyes. She seems to be about 1 ½ years old. She is still somewhat puppyish and playful. It is marvelous to watch her run as she is very fast and athletic. Suzie is what we call a “soft” personality type of dog, who needs calm, but confident people around her to make her feel secure. She bonds quickly with one person, but also enjoys the company of others if they are calm and gentle. She is friendly to people who are welcomed into the home. After greeting them, she will go lie down quietly somewhere near her foster mom. She plays energetically with the male Corgi in her foster home. Suzie is interested in other dogs, and likely would benefit from living with another compatible dog to help build her confidence. She doesn't like a rough wrestling type of play style. Suzie has been great with all the cats she has met including the one in her foster home.
Suzie walks beautifully on leash with a martingale web collar. She is wonderful on the recall and is housebroken. She appears to be a fast learner. She responds well to praise and also will work for treats. She is generally quiet in the house, although can sometimes be noisy when crated. She is currently crated when left home alone and crated at night. She does not seem to have much experience with toys, but shows some interest in them. Suzie is so athletic that she needs a home with secure fences and gates if she is to be out in the yard alone.
Suzie should do well in a home with people who are somewhat active, as she loves to go on hikes or walks and, being so young, needs several good romping runs in the yard each day. She would do best with adopters who will enjoy working on her training, to channel her energy and develop her into the best family dog that she can be. Suzie requires a home where she won't be left alone more than four hours or so a day and with owners who have the flexibility and patience to work with her with positive reinforcement methods to build up her confidence so she will be happy when by herself at home.
