Cub Scout, who responds to "Scout", is an endearing 18-25 month old, male German Shepherd mix.  Found as a stray in Stockton, we wonder what circumstances put such a handsome, smart and happy dog on the street and then unclaimed from the shelter.  It is clear to us that at some point he was loved and cared for. We can only assume there was some significant disruption in his family's life.  Scout is alert to his surroundings, approachable meeting new people, and eager to meet new dogs.  When given the chance, he will romp a bit with other dogs, and then is off to explore a new smell and check in with his human hosts. We have seen no herding behavior and though he is interested in squirrels and other wildlife on the other side of the fence, he is quick to move onto other distractions. Scout is easy on a leash, going so far as to "help" with putting on a harness. He settles in his crate and knows  “sit” and “down” and will offer a paw to shake. We are working on recall and, with his good food motivation, he shows an eagerness to learn. He enjoys chasing a ball, tugging on toys and kissing his humans. He is particularly drawn to the males of the household for romping about. He quickly settled in with his foster family and the resident female shepherd mix , taking cues from her. He seems most content around another dog and/or humans. Not sure about how he would react to cats or young children though he seems to be the most easy-going shepherd this foster family has encountered, and would be a wonderful addition to many families.
