Male 6 years
Age approximately 6 years old
Gibbs was found as a stray and this family took him in. Gibbs is a sweet, mild mannered boy. He was found running the street on 7/20/19. He has been in our home with our two Labradors since then. He does well with confident small dogs. He does well with large dogs. He does well on leash with cats and kids. He is house trained, walks well on leash, rides well in the car. He loves to play ball. He learns quickly and wants to please. He is learning commands, and hand signals, but seems to have been quite neglected where ever he came from. He is timid with strangers but makes friends quickly. He will do well with one or two walks a day. And he will be most happy if someone will play catch with him. He is low maintenance. He is going to need training and would do best with someone familiar with the breed who can help this boy gain his confidence. He at times cowers and recoils which makes me think he may have been abused in the past. We have had a few instances of resource guarding with the other dogs related to treats and choice locations in the house.
He is sweet and mild mannered. And he is insecure. He has some resource guarding with other dogs in regard to me, food dropped on the floor, and a few key spaces in the house. He has never bitten animal or person. He has growled and lunged at our dogs 5-6 times over the last month related to the resource guarding. He walks on leash well alone and with my two Labradors. He plays ball well with my 3 year old lab. He is house broken, rides well in the car, but seems to have no other training. He learns quickly - doggie door 10 minutes, sit and down with a treat one day each. He is learning come and stay. He is going to need a home where people are familiar with guarding dogs and can train an adult dog. He has clearly been neglected in the past and may have been abused. He sometimes cowers and recoils in situations where a well socialized and confident dog would not. He is timid with strangers but makes friends with friendly stranger dogs and people within a few seconds.
